The Significance of the Core Values of Mongolian Civilization

October 13, 2006
Seoul, Korea
Ambassadors for Peace. Distinguished leaders from throughout the world, representing six continents, and all major religions, races and ethnic groups. Ladies and gentlemen.
Thank you for your participation in this 5th World Assembly of the Mongolian Peoples’ Federation for World Peace [MPFWP], sponsored by the Universal Peace Federation [UPF]. The theme for this assembly is “Peacebuilding and Human Development: The Significance of the Core Values of Mongolian Civilization.”
The convening of this 5th Assembly coincides with the conclusion of a series of three global peace tours sponsored by the Universal Peace Federation and led by Rev. Dr. and Mrs. Sun Myung Moon and their family. The first tour, to 120 nations, led by Father Moon, was launched last year following the inauguration of the UPF on September 12, and concluded on December 20. The second tour to 180 nations, led primarily by True Mother, accompanied by her children, was launched in April 2006 and concluded on August 20. And the third tour, the “three generations” tour, was led by True Parents with not only their own children, but also their grandchildren who had received the Blessing. This entire world peace tour series comes to its climax and conclusion tomorrow, when we gather at the Cheon Jeong Gung Peace Palace. On that occasion we will hear directly from True Father.
This evening for the sake of those who are attending an Assembly of the MPFWP for the first time, I would like to share a few basic points about the mission and current work of this important federation. Also, because the MPFWP works in close partnership with UPF, I will also speak about UPF’s mission and work.
Father Moon established the MPFWP in 2004 to form a global alliance among people of Mongolian descent who dedicate themselves in service to humanity for the sake of world peace. In Father Moon’s own words, “From a providential point of view, the Mongolian people of the world represent the eldest son. They must protect and carry on God’s good lineage, and serve God, the true parent of humanity. The eldest son has the providential responsibility to live for the sake of humanity and creation by going beyond walls of self-centeredness.”
When we speak of “Mongolian Peoples” we do not mean simply the citizens of present-day Mongolia. Rather we are referring to a global “diaspora” community that, after centuries of migration and intermarriage, is embedded in every continent, nation, race, religion and nationality. Externally, “Mongolian Peoples” are characterized by a unique, bluish birthmark that appears on the hip or backside of newborn infants, and which usually disappears during early childhood. According to some estimates, nearly three quarters of the world’s population have some relationship to Mongolian ancestors; this population includes not only Asians, but many Hispanics, Native Americans, Europeans, Pacific Island peoples, Africans and North American.
Going back nearly 10,000 years, we find evidence that Mongolian peoples migrated to Central Asia, as well as to the Arctic region, crossing the Bering Strait onto the North American continent and on to the southernmost tip of the South American continent. Others crossed the Himalayas, passed through India and southern China and spread throughout Australia and the islands of Oceania. Some crossed over the Caucasus and went from Central Asia to the southernmost tip of Africa; others went to the northernmost tip of Europe.
Father Moon always views the external world from an internal, spiritual perspective. When understood from this point of view, we see that the Mongolian line is linked to God’s providence, going back as far as the biblical account of Noah, who, several generations after the Fall of Adam and Eve and the division of Cain and Abel, was chosen by God to carry forward the providence of salvation for humanity. The people of Mongolian descent, seen providentially, stand in the position of the eldest son; in Noah’s family this was Shem. The eldest son has the responsibility to serve his parents and all elders, to take care of all the siblings, to preserve the integrity and stability of the family and to maintain the lineage.
The great civilizations of human history have Mongolian roots, including the ancient Sumer civilization, which is recognized as one of the first civilizations. In this way, Mongolian civilization has affected the formation of most ancient civilizations, and even religious traditions, of East Asia, India, the Middle East, Egypt, and the Americas. Wherever Mongolian culture has taken root, one finds evidence of its legacy. Even though diverse cultures have their unique features that may be affected by geographical, environmental, climatic and linguistic factors, there still remain certain core universal values that derive from Mongolian roots. These values include a deepened appreciation for family, lineage, ancestors, the way of heaven, and the natural environment. The earth is valued as representing the position of the mother, and the spiritual world is valued as representing the position of the father. Respect for heaven, the spiritual world, and God are inherent in Mongolian civilizations.
One other core value and trait of the Mongolian peoples is filial piety, which is the proper love, respect and attendance of a son or daughter toward the parents, grandparents and elders, and ultimately toward God. A second core value, which derives from the first, is the love and care offered to younger brothers and sisters in the family. These values are seen in the teachings of all the world’s religions.
In the biblical story of Cain and Abel, the elder son, Cain, consumed by resentment, killed his younger brother, Abel. This brought incredible grief not only to the parents, Adam and Eve, but also to God, the invisible True Parents of humanity.
To reverse or restore the sins of Adam’s family, Noah’s family was to exemplify the highest standard of attendance to the parents and service to siblings. These practices are rooted in the principle of living for the sake of others. This is the key teaching of all great religions. This principle has its origin in God.
In the message that Father and Mother Moon have been taking to all the nations of the world, we learn that the MPFWP represents a restored Cain realm on the world level. MPFWP is to connect to the UPF and serve the peoples, races, nations and religions of the world.
We live in an age that calls us to seek harmony and unification by going beyond all boundaries that have caused division and confrontation. We are all to live as brothers and sisters who originate from a single source, one Creator and common ancestor
Then how shall we open the way to harmony, peace and unification? It is only by the power of true love that comes when we align ourselves with God’s will and divine providence.
Throughout human history Abel-like persons and institutions have been repeatedly dominated and oppressed by Cain-like persons and institutions. This pattern --- Cain killing Abel --- is coming to an end at this time; not through violence or by force, but through the power of true love. Ultimately, Cain and Abel are to reconcile and unite as brothers and work together in accordance with the principle of living for the sake of others.
At this time in providential history, “the era after the coming of heaven” has opened up. On the foundation of the work of True Parents, a new heaven and new earth will be fully apparent by 2012. The dominant ideologies, powers and cultural trends of our age will decline, and the “owner” who has been dominant until now will fade away. Meanwhile, a new ideal is taking root. Increasingly there will be a focus on interreligious harmony; on spirituality and the spirit world; and, on the sacred purpose and value of sex, love, marriage and family.
These phenomena are occurring because we have entered a totally different age related to God’s providential heavenly fortune.
True Father, through the power of true love and the practice of inter-cultural exchange marriage Blessing, is opening the way to this era of heavenly fortune, the era after the coming of heaven. He has led the movement to restore the spirituality of humankind through the liberation of God and the spirit world. He is promoting the Bering Strait Peace King Tunnel and the International Highway project, which will surmount geographical divisions, connecting all humanity as one global village.
Through the UPF, he is building the “Abel” UN, and the unified realm of Cheonilguk, a peace kingdom where all the people of the world can live together as one family, beyond barriers of nationality and race.
What is an Abel UN? Father Moon has defined it as a UN that “offers its efforts for peace to heaven, ceaselessly living for the sake of others.”
UPF is not the result of the mind of any human being. Rather it is an expression of the will of God. It represents an entirely new model or paradigm of sovereignty; that is, a sovereignty based not on external entitlement, military might, political popularity, economic power, or even religious authority, but a sovereignty based on the practice of true love.
The rise of the UPF is directly linked to a broader transformation on a global level. This shift will affect all social, political and economic institutions. An old order, shaken at its foundation, will gradually pass away, not by physical force or violence, but by the force of reason and spiritual awakening.
True Father describes this as the age of cheonilguk, the age in which a new “nation” is being established that has no national, racial, religious or cultural boundaries. It is the nation of one universal human family dwelling together in harmony and cooperation, interdependence and co-prosperity.
In this new age, the UPF will come to function increasingly as the “Abel UN.” Please recognize this point.
Tomorrow we will hear from Father Moon at the Cheong Jeong Gong Peace Palace. Please prepare your hearts and minds. He is now 86 years old. Each day of his life, and each opportunity we have to meet with him and hear from him are so precious. Let us prepare well, first of all, by investing ourselves well in this conference and its topics.
Let me conclude by summarizing the core aspects of the providential mission of the MPFWP. First, we must recognize that we are all brothers and sisters with one common ancestor. What is most essential and precious is the family tradition. We must preserve the sacred value of the family and blood lineage. Of course, not in any exclusive way, for we affirm people of all races, cultures and ethnic backgrounds; and we affirm inter-cultural exchange marriage Blessing between individuals from different nationalities, races, religions and cultures.
The second core aspect of our mission is to love one another as brothers and sisters, as the members of one family and clan with a clear identity centering on universal values.
The third aspect of our mission is to attend and serve our parents, grandparents, the ancestors and ultimately God, the invisible True Parents. Since the highest goal and objective of God is to establish a kingdom of true love and peace, it is our mission to dedicate ourselves to this goal.
In this age after the coming of heaven we must move beyond the era of conflict, struggle and fighting. We must create the realm of freedom, peace and unity. To accomplish this we must overcome all walls and barriers that separate us: barriers of race, barriers of religion, barriers of nationality, and barriers of culture.
Finally, MPFWP must awaken more and more to the reality of the spiritual world, to the importance of true love and purity, and to the need for each of us to live a life of service to others.
This is no ordinary conference. If we open our minds and hearts we can rise to a new level of awareness. Let us not only look back to our roots, but let us look forward to the opportunity of this age. Let us be the vanguard, the people who lead the way, through true love and service, to the establishment of the substantial peace kingdom, where all people live together in freedom, peace and unity. This is the true meaning of “Peacebuilding and Human Development.”
Thank you for your attention. God bless you.
